decorating the living room

decorating the living room

The living room is the most popular place in a house for the entertainment of guests, and where families come together to end their day, relax after a long workweek or to enjoy a television program together. In most cases this room is on the main level of a home and sees a lot of activity. This is why it is imperative that this area to be decorated and made into a friendly atmosphere to ensure the comfort of visitors.

When planning a living room design, the first and most important factor to decide is the purpose of the room. One thing to remember when designing your living area is that you have to be comfortable in the room and like the style since you will most likely be spending a lot of your time in the room.
Finally here are a few living room design ideas that will really get you in touch with the style that you want. Clever use of accessories can make beautiful, fine furniture come alive or give a low-budget interior excitement and sparkle.

An interior without accessories lacks personality and a sense of individuality. Wall and floor coverings, furniture and window treatments provide the body of a room. However, it comes to life when its personal stamp is added through accessories.

This aspect of home accessories interior planning is very satisfying to the creative and imaginative. Accessorizing a room is the final step in the total decorating plan and it can make or break all of important previous efforts.

Besides adding life and interest to a room, accessories can help balance visual weight, colors and textures, and provide style, line and design where needed.

Who is an Interior Designer?

Interior designing is relatively a new profession in Nigeria. Most people misinterpret an interior designer to be a decorator. Although these two professions are closely knit, but one is more sophisticated when it is compared to the other.

An interior decorator is someone who works only with surface decorations, such as painting, fabrics, furnishings, lightings and other accessories. These vocational trades, such as upholsterers, housepainters and host of others require no sophisticated certification or license. But an interior designer is qualified by education, examination and experience, for the sole purpose of enhancing the function and quality of interior spaces.
A design is the expression of creating an experience, an emotion, or a story from a surrounding at work, home and everywhere you can think of; helping life’s functions to be pleasing to the senses while organizing you.

“Everything is design. From the name of a company, to its branding, and products—even the way the phone is answered—is a question of design. So, designers should be perceived as problem-solvers; they solve problems for their clients. A good interior designer combines usefulness with at least one of the following: beauty, comfort, efficiency, economy or durability.

An interior designer is professionally trained to create a functional and quality interior environment; research and creatively resolve issues that will lead to a healthy, safe and comfortable physical environment.
While both designers and decorators are concerned with aesthetics, style and mood; interior designers have comprehensive training and command skills that may include an understanding of: space planning for public and private facilities as well as national, state and local building codes
